The clinic
Lung Disease & Sleep Disorder Clinic is the practice of Vishnu Patel, MD, FCCP, FASM — a pulmonologist and sleep physician who has cared for patients in Princeton for more than thirty years. The clinic is at 1155 Mercer Street and serves Mercer County and the surrounding region of southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia.
We diagnose and treat diseases of the lungs and breathing — asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, occupational lung disease, lung nodules and more — and disorders of sleep, especially sleep apnea. Breathing tests, oxygen testing and sleep studies are done by our own staff, and read by Dr. Patel.
The sleep lab — Total Sleep Apnea Care
Our sleep lab, Total Sleep Apnea Care, is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and shares the building with the clinic on Mercer Street, with its own entrance under the Total Sleep Apnea Care awning. Overnight sleep studies are performed here, attended by a technologist throughout the night. The lab has four private bedrooms, each sound-insulated and temperature-controlled, with a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom — so the night feels as close to home as a test can. Home sleep apnea testing is available for patients who are good candidates, and CPAP and BiPAP set-up, mask fitting and follow-up are handled here as well.
Hospital care
Dr. Patel cares for hospitalized patients at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, and Welch Community Hospital in Welch.
